February Challenge

I am looking forward to accomplishing these goals.  I didn't make January's goal.  I lost thirteen out of the fifteen pounds I challenged myself with.  It's okay- I still did great.

I Am Getting Back On Track!

I Am Getting Back On Track!

Today, I started off with my normal routine for the evening workout.  I went to the main gym and saw a couple, running together.  I admired their stamina and thought back to when I used to do the same thing- except alone.  I've never had a jogging/running buddy.

So I climbed on the treadmill, set it to Intervals and got busy with my walk.  I was doing great but after the couple left, I felt kinda alone.  No one was in the computer room or working out with me.  I began thinking, 'Can I jog again?  Can I do it?'  Nobody was there, so if looked silly, no one would see me and laugh.

I decided to challenge myself.  The last 15 minutes of my power walk, I cranked it up and... Viola!  I did it and wasn't winded or anything.  My knees didn't even ache!  I was so happy, that I decided to modify my February challenge.

In the mornings, for my morning work-out, I am going to add jogging to it.  I will try one day a week and see how that works. If it flows, then I'll add another day after about three weeks.  If that moves well, then I'll continue adding days.

I know that jogging on the treadmill versus pavement is different but for now, I'm happy.  I am more than happy, I'm elated.  Yay me!

Self-Confidence

This Sunday's vlog post (www.alyssacreatingfromwithin.blogspot.com) topic is "Self-Confidence". Many want the perfect Barbie body but realistically, it's impossible. All we can do is Accept ourselves for who and what we are and then hold to Determination and Action. Soon enough, the body you truly desire will take shape and there will be nothing but a bright and shiny version of You on the Outside that matches the existing You on the Inside.

Making Exercise Fun - Week 4

Making Exercise Fun - Week 4

This week was really fun for me.  Granted I didn't lose anywhere near as much weight, I did lose and that's what I'm focusing on.

I have to remember that I celebrated my 10th Wedding Anniversary on Wednesday and Saturday, I went to TGI Friday's for a lunch date with my daughter and grand-children.  I made good decisions and I didn't take in anywhere near as much sodium.  I am proud of all of my decisions.

I also truly believe that had I not had two rather large events this week, I would have lost more.  Eight-tenths of a pound is close to one but still NOT a pound.  Oh well.  I'm happy.

I hope you enjoy this weeks vlog.  I displayed two ways I made exercise fun.  I also love to swim but the pool is closed until the end of the month.  I play with my son and grand-children, walk, power walk, work out on the elliptical and other weights in the gym as well as ride the recumbent bike.  I think that I love swimming the most.

I will be experimenting with other items as time goes by but this was just one way I like to do things.  I hope you enjoy the video; especially my comedic antics!

Yes! Yes! Yes! (BP Update)

I am so proud of myself today! My weight concerns were always about the actual number and my thyroid. Well, right before the New Year I got the bad of being diagnosed with high blood pressure.

My wonderful Doctor told me that it wasn't bad and that many AA's are prone to receive the same Dx when they hit my age but it didn't help me feel better. That was always one of my happiest brags: "I'm healthy, pass the salt!" you know?

Well, I had decided that the roller-coaster, that was my life had to end. I didnt want the thyroid issue. I didn't want to be over weight. And I definitely didn't want to have high blood pressure!

So as you saw in a prev week's video, I went and got my BP checked. It was the same as with my Doc: 144/99. I was not happy. But I am today!

I went back and had it checked again. I found it to be 141/96! YaaaHoooo! Yeah, yeah I know it's not much to do the Happy Dance to but it's down! I praised God and told my son that I was on the right track!

I think my 11.6 pounds in two weeks had a lot to do with it. If it weren't for my love of exercise and finding new ways to burn energy and calories, I may not have gotten any movement with those numbers.

I'm so happy. What a great post!

My 10th Wedding Anniversary!

Today was the celebration of my 10h wedding anniversary!  I was treated like a Queen by my wonderful husband.  We enjoyed a nice handful of hours alone, a movie and even eating- which I was frightened of at first.  Turns out Applebee's took great consideration to those trying to lose weight.  I ate a wonderful 550 calorie meal but main the appetizer was expensive, as was one of my drinks.

It's okay though.  I only went over my caloric intake by about 225-250.  I got home and hit the treadmill for 60 minutes on an uphill incline.  I don't regret any of my wonderful day and evening.  You only get ten years with the person you love once.  I hope to celebrate about forty or so more years with him and I truly appreciate every minute.

I would also appreciate it if God would allow me to not gain any weight off of my wonderful meal!  LOL

Zumba Exhilarate!

So, I'm a happy camper!  I received my Zumba Exhilarate 7-disc set today.  I am filled with mixed emotions due to not being a great dancer when it comes to group participation.  I like to dance and I think I'm okay but put me in a line with a room of folks and I develop three left feet!  Picture one.

I am going to do this.  I am very confident, thus the second photo.  I've always been a girl who set out to do something and did her darndest to get it done.  I am not a quitter and I think that I'm pretty good.  I know that this will be so fun.

The third photo is a way of showing how realistic I am.  I know that just because I set out to do something doesn't mean it will be done perfectly.  I make mistakes.  I fumble and fall.  I laugh at myself and my mistakes.  I also learn a lesson from them and move forward.  Which leads me into the fourth photo.

I take a lesson from all that I attempt.  The final photo is when I fall and get back up, I rethink the situation and come up with an all new plan.  I figure out the mistakes and find ways around them so I can get it accomplished the following attempt.  I know what to do and how to do it.  Implementation is another story, thus the thinking.  I can do this.

Zumba, here I come!  By the way, this wasn't just about Zumba but I gather you figured that out, yeah?

Wild Rice Soup & Happenings

Tonight I decided to try a simple soup recipe. This evening's dinner is Wild Rice Soup.

I grabbed the recipe from Trader Joe's recipes online. I wasn't sure about it at first but MAN was it tasty! A cup equaled about 100 calories and only 1 gram of fat. Gotta love that!

I also danced away some serious calories today with my son. We played Chipwrecked on the Xbox Kinect. LOADS of fun and lots of sweat! I did the figuring and I burned about 600 calories! Can't complain huh?

I am also waiting for my Zumba 7-disc set to arrive. I like dancing but I usually don't fair well when it comes to group coordination. I end up looking ridiculous- but as long as it helps get me fit, I'm all for it.

I am planning to get some measurements at the end of the month. I think I should pay attention to those numbers just as much as the scale's. Sometimes those digits are MORE important.

From experience, I know that there will be times ahead where I won't lose a pound or hit a plateau but will lose inches. I know this is waiting for me in the near future because I've always been the Plateau Queen. I will be prepared though. I won't fash. (That's an Irish phrase. lol)

So, how do I feel? Honestly, I feel great. I replenished my vitamins today and I've been sleeping through the night for the last twelve days or so. I drink more than the necessary eight glasses of water too. I'm so glad with this progress. I know it's due to my taking responsibility and control. So what's next?

I'm already working on Week Three's vlog. It's going smoothly and I can't wait to get it done. Be looking out for it!

Ciao!

Goals & Rewards - Week Two

Week Two

This week, I speak briefly about what I enjoy doing to reward myself when I've accomplished something worth while.  It could be a small, medium or large goal - it doesn't matter!  Anytime you set out to do something, it should be met with a non-edible goody!

Enjoy, have a great week and hope you return for my mid-week blog posting!

Ciao!

Staying On Track!

I am feeling really good about my journey thus far. I would also like to thank my viewers to taking a peek at me and the followers I've obtained on my other pages/sites. It's so exciting!

Today I decided to try a recipe. I love falafel. Every place I've visited, I left VERY happy and so decided to try my own. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't from scratch. That attempt will come later. I used a brand from Trader Joe's, my fav store.

I have to say, it was delicious! I can't wait to see the scale and know all I'm doing is paying off. I had about 7 oz of falafel(2 small patties) with two tablespoons of French onion dip and some antioxidant blend veggies. I'm am full, satisfied and ready to take an risk walk at Powder Valley!

Enjoy the picks and look for the Weigh-In vlog this Sunday!

Ciao!
